Diffusion of gases in liquids.
2. The molecular diffusion coefficients of oxygen in water
The analysis of published in scientific and technical literature experimental data on the coefficients of molecular diffusion of oxygen into water, obtained at atmospheric pressure and different temperatures, is carried out. An empirical dependence is proposed for calculating the molecular diffusion coefficient in the temperature range of 10÷55°C. The obtained exponential temperature dependence of the molecular diffusion coefficient is in good agreement with the kinetic theory of the mechanism of this process. It has been suggested that the proportionality coefficient K in the equation depends on the molar volume of the diffusing gas. The processing of experimental data obtained by various methods made it possible to determine the numerical values of the coefficients K and b for the oxygen–water system.
